Thailand proposes separate prisons for LGBT inmates

Pilot scheme in Bangkok sees LGBT prisoners housed separately for their own safety

The Bangkok Post has reported that Min Buri Prison in Bangkok will be used to house LGBT prisoners under a new scheme by Thailand’s prison authority.

Kobkiat Kasiwiwat, the deputy permanent secretary for justice, said that dedicated prisons for LGBT inmates would protect them from abuse by other prisoners.

Mr Kobkiat was speaking after a meeting Tuesday at Pattaya Remand Prison which was attended by officials from the Office of the Ombudsman, Justice Ministry and human rights activists.

Thailand’s Department of Corrections has said that about 4,500 of the nation’s 300,000 prisoners have agreed to be classified as LGBT.

As transgender females in the country are not officially recognised as women they are usually interred in male prisons.

Pattaya Remand Prison chief Chartpon Arphasut, who also attended the meeting, said LGBT inmates are  vulnerable to abuse.

Lol.

So trans are happy to be with all that identify as lgbt?

Maybe the gays should just think longer before committing crime?

Or maybe a straight gangster would be wise to "come out" in order to have an easier time of things inside?

Equality for all

Quousque tandem, GTLaid?
(Concerns also the Myanmar posting.)

Or how internalised homphobia can make someone totally nuts (and insensitive).

Tragic.

Lol.

homphobia. What's that then?

It's certainly tragic when someone can't debate and resorts to unfounded insults. It's against rules of this comment board also.

Even if a person did have mental health issues, referring to them as "nuts"!? I do feel sorry for you.

GT, your postings indicate symptoms of internalised homophobia. This is a serious condition which may be harmful to you and the people you love (also those you don't love). Here are some links I found:

Having read your links you'll be glad to know I'm not suffering from internalized homophobia. Your diagnosis was way off the mark.

When you have a sore throat do you assume you always immediately assume you have throat cancer?

Maybe you should do a search on hypercondria (by proxy)?

I guess you'd disagree that people can cling to a gay coping structure too much. The horror that people can be independent and actually think for themselves! :)
