Two men have been arrested under Indonesia’s anti-pornography law after uploading a photo of them kissing onto Facebook.
A 22-year-old student and 24-year-old office worker from the city of Manado, on central Sulawesi island, Indonesia were arrested after after social media users complained about a picture of them kissing in bed, police said.
The unidentified couple could face jail time if they are found guilty under the country’s strict anti-pornography laws.
"The couple admitted it's them in the picture and they posted the picture to prove their love," local police spokesman Marzuki told AFP.
The picture, captioned “With my dear lover tonight. May our love last forever” was posted on Oct. 9 and went viral with a large number of angry responses.
It was later removed from Facebook after a request from the communications and information technology ministry, local media reported.
The identities of the two men have not been disclosed and although they are currently not in police custody they could be jailed if they are found guilty.
