Thousands took to the streets in Taiwan cities Saturday to protest a same-sex marriage bill currently working its way through the country’s legislature.
In protests organised by civil groups including The Happiness of the Next Generation Alliance, an estimated 200,000 people protested nationwide—100,000 in Taipei, 50,000 in Kaohsiung and 40,000 in Taichung, organisers said.
In Taipei, protesters gathered outside the Presidential Office on Ketagalan Boulevard.
Demonstrators carried placards demanding a referendum on the issue and distributed petitions to recall legislators who have supported the government's efforts to legalize same-sex marriage.
Representatives from several Christian and Buddhist groups also took part in the event.
An attendee Chu Wu-hsien told Focus Taiwan that the religious groups adamantly opposed the revision of the Civil Code, as it would "destroy the values of the family."
Meanwhile, civic groups in support of same-sex unions such as Taiwan Tongzhi (LGBT) Hotline Association plan to stage a concert on Dec. 10, to coincide with World Human Rights Day, also on Ketagalan Boulevard.

Freedom of speech is a good thing. Never fear it.
AS response what i think about the protest against same-sex marriage, confucianistic cultures still continues in many families, which values having children as a ultimate goal for prosperity, not the individual stance of human beingness! If you want to help confucinistic families to overcome their objections, only human individual values should be compassed along the confucianistic realm. That must be an integer way to deal with it, from individual perspective..so confucianistic behavior in contemporary individual holding stance of one's self. A new and lively approach.
As response from the objection from a Buddhistic group against same-sex-marriage, I can attend you to the disynchronisation of buddhahood, proclaiming with any connection to other human being, since Buddhism practice, is just a long way of detachments. In my opinion we deal here with a buddhistic dispragma, say it a fashionable buddhistic group just fashioning protest. Never should any individual Buddhist deal with other one's social connections in life..a real Buddha hood is a taoistic personal path.
See, these thousand energy, why government did not order them to cleaning streets, serving people getting sick in hospital , charity activities, or to enhance productivity to 100% fold, etc?
just order them at the time of them making protest. That was gold momentum to show that they are correct people.
tell me about your sense of territory and dogma
