Indian transgender activist Laxmi Narayan Tripathi talks about India’s “third gender” at the Women in the World L.A. salon in associated with the New York Times last week.
She has advocated for transgender rights for the last two decades and has presented before India’s Supreme Court and the United Nations
India is one of just 11 countries that recognize a third gender — and Tripathi is a gender warrior who convinced India’s Supreme Court to think beyond male and female.
