Professional surfer ASam became the first Chinese athlete to come out as LGBT.
Surfer ASam, or Xu Jingsen, believed to be China's first openly LGBT athlete, will be heading to the Gay Games in Paris later this year after coming out on popular social media platform, Weibo, earlier this month.
"I will attend the global Gay Games in Paris, France, in August this year and serve as an ambassador," ASam wrote on his Weibo, saying "Yes, I am gay."
"Life is human, the ultimate measure of our inner courage," he added. "We have the right to choose love and to be loved. Sex, age and skin color are not shackles."
According to an image posted by ASam he will be competing in swimming in basketball at the Gay Games in August.
The 2022 Gay Games will be held Hong Kong.
