What were the Stonewall riots?Also known as the Stonewall uprising, this seminal moment in the history of LGBT rights in the US ignited in the early hours of 28 June 1969. Today marks the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall uprising - a landmark date for the LGBT Community globally. The riots took place over six nights in Greenwich Village, New York City, and ignited following a police raid on a local gay bar, the Stonewall Inn.
