Sir Shivananda Khan, a prominent gay and AIDS activist, and founder of Naz Foundation International and the Asia Pacific Coalition on Male Sexual Health (APCOM), passed away in his home on Monday, May 20. In recognition of Khan’s work with MSM in Asia, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 2005.
APCOM uses the occasion of World AIDS Day 2010 to sound a regional alarm about the unjust treatment of men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender people who not only have their basic human rights violated but are denied access to lifesaving HIV prevention, treatment and care.
APCOM, a multi-sector coalition of regional MSM and transgender community representatives, and governmental and non-governmental partners, elects first governing board and sets long-term agenda to tackle HIV among MSM and transgender people in Asia Pacific.
