A new study involving 4244 men in the US has shown that a history of childhood sexual abuse is associated with an increased risk of sexual risk-taking, problematic drug and alcohol use, and are less receptive to HIV prevention interventions.
Using data from the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance System (NHBS) involving gay men in five large US cities, researchers found that over 50% of HIV transmissions in US gay men are from main sexual partners and 46% of infections were from partners who were believed to be HIV-negative.
Many consider oral sex to be zero risk for HIV transmission and a safer alternative to penetrative sex but researchers analysing multiple studies on the topic are concluding that oral sex does carry some risk.
