From 3 to 20 July 2013, Singapore-based theatre group Wild Rice is staging a festival of works by bad-ass playwright and political commentator Alfian Sa’at, with a particular focus on his landmark gay play Dreamplay: Asian Boys Vol. I.
As the much anticipated final instalment of the Asian Boys Trilogy opens next Wednesday, Fridae catches up with Johann S. Lee, who wrote Singapore's first gay novel, Peculiar Chris, in 1992 and from which Happy Endings is adapted.
At 23, filmmaker Boo Junfeng is already being called the "next Royston Tan." His new gay short film Katong Fugue is based on Alfian Sa'at's play and has made it to the Singapore Film Fest finals. Viva gay cinema!
