Ernest and Bertram, a spoof that features Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street confessing their feelings for each other has upset the show producers.
The Queer (credit) Card aimed at gay shoppers wishing to 'make a personal statement.'
A spokesperson for The Children?s Television Workshop, which makes Sesame Street, said that they were seeking legal action.
She said: "We are unhappy with the film?s content. Ernie and Bert are friends who live together. There?s nothing sexual in their relationship. We?ve consulted lawyers and will decide whether to take this matter further."
The pair who live in a well decorated house in the film, admit to sharing a bedroom and bathing together occasionally.
Rumours concerning the puppet?s supposed sexuality have dogged the Children?s Television Workshop for years, according to the Urban Legends Reference Pages website.
The show producers have persistently denied rumours about Bert and Ernie's sexual orientation.
According to the website, the Children?s Television Workshop stated in 1993 that Bert and Ernie, who've been on Sesame Street for 25 years ?do not portray a gay couple? and ?are puppets, not humans.?
