Popular US talk show host Rosie O'Donnell whose sexuality has been the target of much speculation, announced that she's a "dyke" as part of her act at a recent charity appearance, reported USA Today.
O'Donnell who is alleged to have come out in her new autobiography, Find M, due for publication in May added, "I don't know why people make such a big deal about the gay thing. People are confused, they're shocked, like this is a big revelation to somebody."
She first tackled Barbara Walters' interview with Anne Heche, the former partner of Ellen DeGeneres, who is now married and pregnant. "What the hell kind of train wreck was that?
"She couldn't just say, 'I was a lesbian for two years, it didn't work out for me,'" referring to Heche when she talked about being possessed on Walters' show.
O'Donnell, herself an adoptive mother, wants to call attention to anti-gay adoption laws told the audience about parenting an emotionally damaged 3-year-old girl.
She said: "Come to find out, in order to adopt this child, I would have to perjure myself, would have to sign a document that says in the state of Florida that I am not bisexual or homosexual. The fact that I was unwilling to sign that document meant the child was removed from the house."
O'Donnell has recently taped an interview with Diane Sawyer to air as a two-hour show on ABC's PrimeTime Thursday on March 14, to talk chiefly about the case of two gay men in Florida who face having a foster child they raised removed from their home.
The comedian is also an outspoken advocate for children, lending her name, time and money to countless charitable organisations.
In 1997, she started the For All Kids foundation, which provides financial support to nonprofit groups that serve children from low-income families.
