Running from April 6 to 30, the 2006 MSM survey is being conducted for the third consecutive year by Fridae and Action for Aids Singapore (AfA). The survey aims to gain an in-depth understanding of the attitudes and behaviour of gay men and other MSM (men who have sex with men) who might otherwise identify as bisexual or straight. The results will also be used to design HIV prevention campaigns to be more effective in addressing MSMs issues.
AfA further explains: "Following on from two earlier surveys in 2002 and 2004, the MSM Survey 2006 will help AfA track changes in attitude and behaviours.
"This will provide an indication of the effectiveness of previous education and prevention programmes. Collated information will be useful in planning future campaigns for the community. Your participation will help our community partners in designing and implementing future AIDS prevention programmes."
The survey, which only requires about 15 minutes to fill out, was shaped after two months of collaborative effort between Fridae and AfA; and also reflects input from the Health Promotion Board, a statutory board under the Ministry of Health.
For the first time, gay groups and web sites such as Sgboy, Signel, Ooga Chaga and Safehaven will also appeal to their members to participate in the survey, making this year's survey the most comprehensive.
HELP US KICK THE DISEASE
They say knowledge is power, and the key to fighting AIDS is in understanding it. Not just the virus, but also the people it affects - YOU. In order to design effective campaigns, we first want to know more about you, the gay/MSM community.
Help us by taking a few minutes of your time to complete the following survey.
Your participation is highly valued and will have a significant impact on the future of AIDS campaigns targeting MSM. 15 minutes of your time is all you need to give a voice to the important issue of HIV prevention. It takes so little, but means so much.
