A minister in charge of Islamic affairs, Mujahid Yusof Rawa, told Malaysia's parliament last week that the government understood society's backlash against LGBT but that the marginalized minority deserved equality at work.

Do not say that [the] Pakatan Harapan [government] supports [the] LGBT [community]," he told the House, according to The Online Citizen.

He was answering questions on the Government's plans in tackling the "spread" of LGBT "culture", which supposedly runs contrary to the a constitution that places Islam as the official religion.

"The LGBT issue is not one that only affects Muslims — we must examine how it affects non-Muslims. We need to do this in order to prevent us from being swept up by this foreign culture," he said.

Mujahid, however, assured that the marginalised community's human rights would be protected under the Constitution and also said discrimination in the workplace could lead to LGBT seeking sex work instead.
