National Treasure: Book of Secrets

Director: Jon Turteltaub

Starring: Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger, Jon Voight, Harvey Keitel

Release: 2007-12-18

It's hard to believe that a big, loud and dumb action-adventure movie like 2004's National Treasure managed to be such a box-office hit that it spawned a sequel. But who are we to argue with numbers, or for that matter, producer Jerry Bruckheimer?

Jerry, the man behind massive action hits like CSI, Top Gun and Bad Boys, has figured out a way of creating films and TV shows that are awful, disposable and profitable all at the same time.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets stars Nicolas Cage once again as a treasure seeker who is adept at searching for clues and solving arcane puzzles. When an old yellowed page of a missing book is found, it suggests that Nicolas great-grandfather was responsible for the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln in 1865. Determined to clear his family name, Nicolas embarks on an adventure that leads him to the ancient city of gold...

Directed by Jon Turteltaub, National Treasure is a ridiculous, far-fetched and poorly-acted action adventure. Nicolas Cage looks bored and unconvincing in his role, while his co-star Diane Kruger and Jon Voight give half-baked performances. But then again, with a script like this, which actor would bother giving their all?

A very expensive but very silly B-grade film. Strictly for action junkies.
