Megan plays a hot high school girl whom every boy wants to sleep with. One night, Megan is kidnapped by a rock band who sacrifices her to the Devil so that in return, the Devil would make the band famous. Megan returns from the dead and goes back to school – except, of course, she’s not quite human anymore. Rather, she’s a man-eater – the real kind. Soon, the boys who’ve always had a crush on her are turning up dead…
Directed by Karyn Kusama (Girlfight), Jennifer’s Body is predictable horror-satire that rehashes many of the genre’s techniques, from the dripping faucet to the shadow play to the climax at the high school dance. So it isn’t all that scary. The script, however, is written by Diablo Cody, the Oscar-winning writer behind last year’s sleeper hit Juno. So expect plenty of pop culture references, smartass one-liners and attitude, attitude, attitude.
As the resident school siren-turned-Resident Evil, Megan preens and pouts confidently her way into your loins. But the ones you root for are ultimately the nerds (Amanda Siegfried and Johnny Simmons) who lend a surprising human touch to this B-grade butchery.
