"Stupid Mistake" is taken from Hayes new LP Secret Codes & Battleships that is a reflection of the singer's ongoing artistic journey that has taken him from his debut with Savage Garden to the slick, '80s inspired pop of "Spin," and from the moody atmospherics on "The Tension & The Spark" to the lyrical soul-searching on "This Delicate Thing We've Made." It's an impressive catalog of music that continues to inspire fans everywhere.

On May 8, Hayes celebrated his 40th birthday, which is a big milestone for the Star Wars obsessed, Prince loving singer. To celebrate this grand occasion, Hayes is sharing a brand-new remix of "Stupid Mistake" that was reinterpreted by London's Bright Light Bright Light (aka Rod Thomas) who gave Hayes' "dramatic and Shakespearean" original a potent new '90s punch.

Hayes writes me about the remix, "I'm a huge fan of Rod's remixes and his music as Bright Light Bright Light. In particular I enjoy hearing his love affair with the '90s and remix artists like the legendary Shep Pettibone. My instruction to him when requesting a remix was that it was a love letter to Shep, Clivilles & Cole and 808 drums."

"When I think of my favourite 12 inch mixes on vinyl, they were remixes in a vague house style, with big piano riffs and those signature snare rolls," Hayes adds. "I think he's more than delivered. It's my favourite remix from the album so far and I wanted everyone to hear it."

Bright Light Bright Light is equally excited about this remix and the opportunity to work with Hayes. "It's quite something when someone whose records you bought when you were 14 asks you to remix their song," he smiles. "Darren's one of the nicest people, and one of the most hard working musicians, so it was amazing to be part of his release."
