Three gay men who are suspected of using the Internet to procure sex with other men are now facing prosecution in Egypt, according to a report by Rainbow Network.
The men are accused of creating websites with pornographic pictures, and soliciting sex. The three, who are reported to be an anesthetist, a chartered accountant and an accountant, have been remanded in custody pending investigation.
Homosexual sexual activity is illegal in Egypt, a conservative Muslim country. In February this year, a 27-year-old engineer and a 32-year-old accountant were jailed for three years and for 15 months respectively for committing an unspecified indecent act, reported UK news website, Ananova.
The two men who posted nude photos of themselves and offered to have gay sex, are believed to be responsible for the country's first gay sex website. The judge said the men "abused the technological revolution to do their disgraceful act that defames Egypt".
