third time's a charm? ellen to host emmy awards on nov 4

The twice-postponed Emmy Awards ceremony is now set for November 4 - seven weeks later than originally planned.

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and CBS have announced that the twice-postponed Emmy Awards will now take place November 4 - come "war, hell or high water" in the words of Academy President, Jim Chabin.

Openly gay actress and comedienne Ellen DeGeneres
According to a press statement, Chabin indicated that the show would be scaled down from the original gala and will take place at the Shubert Theater in Los Angeles's Century City rather than at the Shrine Auditorium in downtown LA.

Despite numerous changes to the event, openly gay actress and comedienne Ellen DeGeneres remains the host of the event. This will be the second time DeGeneres is hosting the Emmys. In 1994, she co-hosted the awards show with Patricia Richardson of Home Improvement.

The traditional formal dress code has also been scrapped in favour of "dressy business attire" in keeping with the understated tone of this year's ceremony. Fans will not be allowed in the red carpet area and have been encouraged to watch the coverage from home.

The plan to hold a simultaneous ceremony in New York City (for East Coast nominees who were worried about flying to Los Angeles) has also been scrapped. This year, there will be only one after-party, a Unity Dinner held across the street from the Shubert at the Century Plaza Hotel.
