Lesbian icon, kd lang, will perform at the Sydney 2002 Gay Games on Saturday, 2 November.

The Canadian singer said she is delighted to be able to perform at one of the world's biggest gay and lesbian events: "I've waited a long time to participate in the Gay Games and I'm happy that the 2002 Games will be in Sydney, because Australia is such a great country and I don't have the opportunity to visit nearly as much as I'd like," lang said in a press release issued by the organisers.

"I'm very excited about coming to perform there in front of such an international audience."

Famous for her numerous hits, inluding Constant Craving and Crying, lang will perform in the Remembrance segment of the Opening Ceremony, attended by the games' 13,000 registered participants.

"I'm really overjoyed that kd has agreed to join our celebration, and I'm sure that her wonderful voice and the choice of material will more than pay tribute to those in the gay and lesbian community we have lost to HIV/AIDS". Says Director of Parties, Gary Lesson.

"What's wonderful about kd is that she's loved by lesbians, gay men, and straights alike - she's the perfect choice for what is going to be one fabulous night!"

lang will also perform at Welcome, the first Sydney 2002 party, which is being held at Fox Studios immediately following the Opening Ceremony.
