Huashan creative park in Taipei witnessed the first Pink Dot rally in the city, meaning that Taipei joins the likes of Okiwana, Hong Kong, Montreal, Toronto, and Utah in hosting the event.
With the tagline 'Freedom to love', Pink Dot originated in Singapore to celebrate LGBT relationships and promote equality in a family friendly event. The first rally was held in 2008.
Saturday's rally was the fourth Pink Dot event to be held in Taiwan, with Kaohsiung and Tainan hosting similar events in 2011 and this year.
PinkDot Tw was organised by Gay & Lesbian Awakening Day, a student group of northern Taiwan universities. It featured a concert.
Chang Ming-Hsu, Chair of 2015 Pink Dot TW and convener of GLAD, told Gay Star News that about 1,000 people stayed in the park throughout the event while an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 people attended in total.
Chang also said: 'As we see Pink Dot SG to be a good avenue for the LGBT community to connect with mainstream society, we hope for the Pink Dot event in Taipei to be another way to further the movement in addition to the Taiwan pride parade.'
