Watch: Thousands join Hong Kong Pride Parade 2015

Record turnout as thousands of LGBT supporters take to streets for annual pride march and celebration

Rainbow flags filled Hong Kong's streets this weekend as supporters of LGBT equality marched from Victoria Park in Causeway Bay to Tamar Park in Admiralty.

With a theme to 'Yell Out for Equality,' more people than ever joined the march with some estimating numbers at around 10,000.

A lot of marchers highlighted the fact that Hong Kong lags behind other countries in the region when it comes to LGBT rights as there is still no legislation against discrimination based on sexuality and there is no discussion about same-sex marriage.

“There’s still a lot of room to improve, compared to Taiwan and even to Japan,” Carol Yung, a 40-year-old marketing officer in the music industry, told AFP.

The march was also attended by a number of LegCo members including Leung Kwok-hung and by diplomats from a number of European and North American countries.

The march comes after comments by the Catholic bishop of Hong Kong John Tong Hon hit out at gay marriage and informed his flock to consider this issue when choosing who to vote for in local elections.

Tong's pastoral letter released on Thursday said sexual liberalisation and the gay-rights movement had "shaken our society to its core".

Estimated to be 10,000? It really looked like non parade people being led under a flag in the main.

The stage had maybe a hundred or so? Lots of students. Gays die in their late 20s in HK?

I don't think the Catholics need worry. :)
