Around 17,000 people in Singapore have signed a ‘petition against Adam Lambert performing in Countdown 2016 to be held at The Float @ Marina Bay’ since it was launched on Wednesday.
The petition is directed at state broadcaster Mediacorp and partners who are organising the event. The show would be aired live on television.
The petition describes Lambert as a ‘performer fraught with controversy even in his home country’ and having ‘engaged in sexualized acts, including kissing a male band member on stage’ and ‘featur(ing) female showgirls and male strippers performing acts of indecency.’
It goes on to say that the 33-year-old star is ‘well-known for his active promotion of a highly sexualized lifestyle and LGBT rights, both of which are contrary to mainstream Singaporean values.’
It is not known who started the petition which is signed, ‘For the love of Singapore, our family and our future, Concerned citizens, Concerned parents, Concerned individuals.’
However, as of Saturday 21,000 people had signed a counter-petition entitled ‘We want Adam Lambert performing in Countdown 2016’
