A new report intended to support the advancement of LGBT relationship rights in the Asia Pacific region has been released by APCOM to mark this year’s Valentine’s Day.
“Legal Recognition of Same-Sex Relationships in Asia” has been prepared by Professor Douglas Sanders from the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies at Mahidol University in Bangkok. The report has been produced with the support of APCOM.
The report provides a brief but useful summary of issues which are relevant to people in gay and lesbian relationships right across the Asia region, including information on the status of key laws and legal provisions affecting same sex couples and their children.
The report notes how same sex couples can use wills, powers of attorney, joint ownership and legal guardianship laws to create legal frameworks for their relationships. It also notes how household registration systems in some countries can be used to provide a same-sex relationship with legal status.
