Wishful thinking, but maybe someday Indonesia will find the moral high ground to join the 21st Century!

Never going there why would anyone want to.. backwards culture! Such a shame they are living in the dark ages.

Hopefully SOMEDAY they will join the rest of the world and practice common sense, humanity, and decency.

They better have a VERY large school for the classes, since there are millions of gay in Indonesia, In fact there are 100's of millions of gay Muslims in this world. It is time for them to adapt to the REAL world.

Too bad they can't shake off those ridiculous religious beliefs, and revert to something more moderate, like Hinduism or Buddhism.

Religion again. I used to enjoy visiting Bali and diving in Komodo. But Indonesia will not be getting any more of my dollars.

The only way these entrenched religious space cadets are going to get the message is through stopping/reducing the flow of money and pressure from the people, governments, and organizations.
They need to be removed from power and sent to a "conversion therapy camp". Wouldn't that be humorous! The look on their faces would make me LMAO!

The irony here is under the days of the old Soeharto regime is that minority groups like the LGBTQI community enjoyed greater personal freedoms to be themselves and more likely to be not interfered with, then they currently do under the auspices of living in a "liberalised" democracy. The religious nutters have found a greater voice through the parliamentary system and as far as money is concerned a lot of that flows into Indonesia from Suadi Arabia where the extreme form of the Muslim faith care of the Wahabis/Sulfis agenda is to influence the political system and the educational system in Indonesia to more reflect their extreme and backward world views.
We should not be running away and taking our money with us but engaging more and providing more aid for education and the political system. It is the absence of western aid money that has created a vacuum that has been replaced by the Suadi Arab influence!

You have a good point iburakus. My problem with aid money is a good deal of it is "siphoned" off by devious individuals and never gets to the problem, nor do these creeps get convicted for stealing. I agree with you on stepping up education and awareness programs.

There is still hope… from what I understand, the ruling political party in Indonesia does not back this suggestion yet.
There are four other parliament parties suggesting this… I do hope the government party puts this suggestion where it belongs - into the waste basket.

Really? I live in Indonesia all my life and I don't perceive any greater freedom under the Soeharto regime. But media enjoys much more freedom now; maybe that's why we read more about persecutions and discriminations done to minorities. These things happened in the "Orde Baru" as well.
