Check out a stream of the new Prince track "Black Sweat" that is taken from his upcoming new album "3121." Funky sound, but I'm not buying his whole James Brown impersonation. It is just a little too much and seems an easy rip off. But then again, the charismatic Prince has never had a real knack for innovation. Instead he has surrounded himself with quality musicians that have added a magic touch to his music, including Wendy & Lisa and Candy Dulfer. Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to diss Prince. I believe he has a great command of classic soul, rock and funk, and has put together a bunch of top musicians in the past who have created some of the best music of the '80s and '90s.
If you're interested in Prince's music-making process, I recommend you pick up this excellent biography by Alex Hahn. I do enjoy the peppy production of "Black Sweat" with the distorted beats and the electronic special effects (like those around the 0:27 second mark). Turn it up loud to hear.

I'm loving Yeah Yeah Yeahs new single "Gold Lion" that is all over the net today. The track is an introduction to the group's new record "Show Your Bones" that will be out on March 28. It appears a departure from the band's punky beginnings with an acoustic-based sound that is full of rock 'n roll spunk. Hello Karen, goodbye Courtney! If you can find it, check out the remix of Arjan Writes fave Diplo that is even more fun than the original. Thanks to Thomas for the heads up. (Click here to download "Gold Lion" from iTunes.)

Editors are one of the latest indie darlings to hit America this year. Founded in Birmingham, U.K., the rock quartet offers a sound that is comparable to Interpol, The Smiths and even Joy Division. The group put out their critically-acclaimed album "The Back Room"
in the U.K. last July. According to the group's bio, they are creating a
genre of their own that they like to call "dark disco." It is a fitting description of the vibe on their record with its emo-filled lyrics, propulsive guitar riffs and tinges of moody
electronica on songs like "Camera" and "Distance." You can
download the entire album at 7Digital.
The group's cover of "French Disko" (originally by Stereolab) is the B-side of their single "Munich." The song appears to have taken its inspiration from the 1789 French Revolution with lyrics that draw parallels with the seemingly "absurd" world of today "that is still worth fighting for."
This is an excellent track by an exciting new band. But be warned. Editors' music is an acquired taste. Give it some time to let it grow on you.

MadeInBrazil features a fun interview with sexy Brazilian DJ Leandro Becker today and tomorrow. The king of the Brazilian circuit is 100% straight but has found huge success in Brazil's gay clubs with his ferocious party mixes and handsome looks. Leandro's take on diversity in clubs is a straightforward one: "A good party needs a little bit of everything. Gays, lesbians, straights, whores... Only diversity can make a party complete." MadeInBrazil's spies have been reporting on Leandro for months now, but this is the first time he speaks with the blog that features more hotness than you can probably stand on a Monday.
