The Omen

Director: John Moore

Starring: Liev Schreiber, Julia Stiles, Josh Hutcherson

Screening: 2006-06-06

Why are there remakes if they are not going to be much better or
much worse than the original? The 1976 horror film The Omen
is, after all, one of the classic horror movies of all-time. It
stands right up there with Poltergeist, The Exorcist
and Rosemary's Baby.

The new version of The Omen copies so much of the original
that you wonder what the point of the whole exercise is. Could this
movie have been made for the sole purpose of releasing it on 6th
June, 2006 (6-6-6 is the sign of Satan)? Did they actually think
that Liev Schreiber and Julia Stiles could improve on the same roles
played by the legendary Gregory Peck and Lee Remick?

Whatever the reasons are, this update of The Omen is hardly
an update at all. It's like watching the same movie twice, except
with different actors. (Remember Gus Van Sant's version of Psycho?
Idiotic.) Liev and Julia play parents to a creepy boy (Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick)
who brings bad luck or worse to those around him. Little do they
realize that the young boy, aptly named Damien, is the son of Satan...

Whatever you do, don't buy 4-D tickets with 6606. Sure won't strike
one...
