India and Pakistan have never quite recovered from the events of 1947, when the two separated from each other to become individual countries. Many have died as a result of the separation and fighting, and many will continue to die because of the festering resentments on both sides.
This historical epic portrays the love between a Sikh man (Jimi Mistry from The Guru) and a Muslim woman (Kristin Kreuk from Smallville) who are torn apart by the partition between the two lands. Falling in love in the most unlikely of circumstances, they find their love tested by their communities and conflicting loyalties.
Despite the rich dramatic material, Partition is not a good film. It flounders under the weight of its own overbearing self-importance and theatricality. Neither Jimi nor Kristin is particularly convincing, even though both of them aren't as bad as Neve Campbell (from Party of Five) struggling to put on a British lady's accent.
There's a great movie nay, many great movies waiting to be made about the division of India and Pakistan, but this isn't one of them.
