My Wife is a Gangster 3

Original Title: Jopog Manura 3

Director: Jo Jin-Gyu

Language: Cantonese and Korean with English subtitles

Starring: Shu Qi, Lee Beom-Su, Hyeon Yeong

Release: 2007-07-03

Dykes who never stopped fancying Shu Qi may like the sexpuss' new movie it features her spinning around the room and beating the crap out of the bad guys. But anyone else who does not have a special fascination for the actress may be bored by the plot, especially in the predictable second half of the movie.

Shu Qi plays the daughter of a triad boss in Hong Kong. When she is accused of killing a rival triad leader, her father ships her off to Seoul for her own safety. There, she finds herself under the care and protection of the Korean mafia. Her guardians are Lee Beom-Su and his bumbling gang of hoodlums.

When the enemies attack, Shu Qi proves she's perfectly capable of taking care of herself. She punches the bad guys in the guts and smashes their skulls, without breaking a sweat. She is one woman who doesn't need a man or so she thinks...

My Wife is a Gangster 3 is directed by Jo Jin-Gyu, who also directed the successful first film of 2001. Unfortunately, the original film had slick action choreography, wicked humour and inventive storyline elements which are somewhat missing here. The new film is a lot inferior to the original, coming across as a B-grade actioner filled with plot cliches and bad action choreography.

The multiple subtitles in English, Chinese and Korean also take up way too much of the screen space.
