The Nanny Diaries

Director: Directors: Shari Springer Berman, Robert Pulcini

Starring: Scarlett Johansson, Laura Linney, Chris Evans

Release: 2007-09-25

Long live the bimbo movie! From Breakfast at Tiffany's to Pretty Woman to The Devil Wears Prada, chick flicks always manage to light up our queer lives in small and uncomplicated ways. And The Nanny Diaries is the latest one to deliver just the right dose of estrogenic fun.

The too-sexy-for-this-webpage Scarlett Johansson plays a new university graduate looking for a job in Manhattan. Failing to secure a well-paying corporate job, she finds work instead as a nanny for a mean lady (Laura Linney) and her little brat (Nicholas Reese Art). Scarlett soon finds herself thrown from one mess to another, but though she wants to leave, she can't bear to leave behind the little boy whom she has grown attached to...

What can we say? American critics have panned this movie, but we found it simply quite charming. Scarlett and Chris Evan (who plays her love interest) are absolutely sweet and sexy even though they never take off their clothes. And Laura Linney shines as the mean boss who hides a deep-seated hurt inside. Like Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada, she humanizes the bitch-in-Gucci role so you can never ever hate her.

We loved this movie, no matter what the mainstream press may write. It's cutesy, it's dainty and Chris and Scarlett are just dishy.
