They're baaaack, as the spooky blonde girl from the Poltergeist movies would say. Horror maestros the Pang brothers (The Eye, The Messengers) return to the screen with their latest chiller which stars Aaron Kwok as a private detective investigating a strange string of murders.
The story begins when Aaron is hired by a man to track down a woman who wants to kill him. But the case gets increasingly bizarre when the people Aaron is looking for keep turning up dead. In one instance, a terrified victim screams "Leave me alone" to seemingly no one before jumping off a building.
By the time a spooky woman with long hair makes her appearance, it's hard not to think there are supernatural elements tied to this case...
Once again, the Pang brothers have managed to make an effective chiller filled with their finely-honed if shopworn techniques. Even if the blending of the detective genre with supernatural elements is sometimes unwieldy and unconvincing, The Detective still makes for passable popcorn entertainment.
