Bee Movie has been touted by the press as the comeback film for comedian Jerry Seinfeld. However, Jerry only voices the animated character of a bee, so it's really hard for one to get all worked up over it. What one can be excited about is his trademark deadpan humour something that's been sorely missed since his self-titled sitcom went off-air years ago.
The story centres on Barry the Bee (Jerry Seinfeld) who doesn't want to be like any other worker bee, collecting honey all day for the bee-hive. Barry dreams of romance and adventure in the real world. So when a sweet-natured florist Vanessa (Renee Zellwegger) scoops him out of harm's way, Barry instantly falls for her. He spends more time in her human world, and soon discovers much to his horror that people take honey from bee hives for their own consumption. Barry considers that stealing, and decides to redress that wrong by suing the human race...
As you'd expect, Bee Movie is full of the Seinfeld's sly breezy one-liners that grow naturally out of the situation. In fact, the script incorporates a lot of references to classic movies like The Graduate, as well as voice appearances by the likes of Oprah and Sting, that would please adult audiences more than it would kids.
For fans of Jerry Seinfeld's deadpan humour, Bee Movie would be an A-treat. For everyone else, this isn't a must-see.
