Hailing from Leeds, England, Your Vegas are Coyle Girelli (vocals), Matt Steel (guitar), Mark Heaton (keys/guitar), Jon Langford (bass) and Mal Taylor (drums). The band got its start in 2004 when Girelli, Steel and Langford bonded over a love for Depeche Mode, Coldplay and The Killers while attending Prince Henry's Grammar School in a small suburb outside Leeds called Otley. Later that year, Heaton, a good friend from the Leeds music scene, and Taylor, another school friend, joined the group to complete the band's final line-up.
They chose the name Your Vegas to reflect their music's point of view. "Your Vegas seemed to sum us up. It's about escaping to a different place, wherever that is," the group explains in a press statement.
After sending out demos to record label and playing shows in New York City to capture scouts' attention, they finally were signed to Universal Republic in 2006. Since then, they have been working on their debut album, which was released digitally this week. Produced by David Bendeth (Paramore, Dropping Daylight), the record is filled with soaring, guitar-driven pop tunes that feature Girelli's captivating vocals, which Time Out NYC compared to none other than U2's Bono.
Get a guilt-free MP3 copy of their single "In My Head" a blistering alt-pop tune filled with escapism that features Girelli's captivating falsetto vocals. Also, make sure to check out their gorgeous video for "The Way War Was Won," which was directed by Capteron Barnes.
