Fanboys, rejoice!
Hellboy that red, cigar-chomping, half-human half-devil whose sense of humour is drier than 3-day toast is back and badder than ever. This time, Hellboy (Ron Perlman) has even more on his hands as he battles the evil and ruthless Golden Army that have been reawakened from their sleep by the otherworldly Prince Nuada (Luke Goss) to take over the world.
But that's not all he has worry about. His fire-starting girlfriend Liz (Selma Blair) is pregnant with his child so Hellboy must come to terms with his impending role as a father. Now, how she actually got pregnant is something we'd rather not discuss...
Based on the comic books by Mike Mignola, Hellboy II is an absolutely beautiful piece of filmmaking. Directed once again by Guillermo Del Toro, the film is filled with exotic creepies and crawlies, and gorgeous Rococo-inspired sets and costumes. From start to finish, Hellboy II is an exquisite visual treat that will have fanboys and graphic design students salivating all the way.
For sure, we haven't seen a movie look this cool, dark and macabre since, well, Guillermo's own film Pan's Labyrinth. We were completely in awe of the intricate and detailed production and creature designs and can't wait to collect the toys if there are any.
Hellboy II is also a must-watch for the week.
