Japanese directors are really making headway in Hollywood. After Hideo Nakata (The Ring) and Takashi Shimizu (Ju-On) went to the West to direct the English versions of their movie, Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus) was asked to adapt Clive Barker's short story Midnight Meat Train to the big screen.

This very dark and gruesome film tells the story of a photographer (Bradley Cooper) who is assigned to photograph the underbelly of New York after dark. He chances upon a killer (Vinnie Jones) who goes on killing sprees, murdering innocent bystanders with a meathook and a sledgehammer. When the killer realises that Bradley is tailing him to photograph his killings, he starts going after Bradley too...

Clive Barker is well-known among horror fans as the best horror writer around, next to Stephen King. And Midnight Meat Train is a gruesome, freaky film that would only appeal only to diehard horror fans. For the rest of you, we suggest you go for the milder but more enjoyable 4BIA.
