Nights in Rodanthe

Director: George C Wolfe

Starring: Richard Gere, Diane Lane, Scott Glenn

Release: 2008-10-14

The mushy, corny Nights in Rodanthe is based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks, who also wrote The Notebook and Message in a Bottle. It stars Diane Lane as a 40-something woman whose husband cheated on her, but her kids want her to forgive him and take him back. Unsure of what to do, she takes a weekend off on her own to think things over at her friend's bed-and-breakfast.

The only guest there happens to be a handsome doctor (played by Richard Gere) who has issues of his own. But sparks soon fly and the two eventually find their way into each others' arms...

Now it's nice to note that, now and then, Hollywood studios try to make romances starring 40-something and 50-something actors. Unfortunately, Night in Rodanthe is a dreadful melodrama that's actually worse than the stuff you can find on the Hallmark channel. The dialogue is so awfully corny that even the combined charisma of Diane Lane and Richard Gere can't salvage the movie.

Skip this too.
