The title Cicakman 2: Planet Hitam literally translates to Lizardman 2: Black Planet. A box-office hit in Malaysia in 2006, the first Cicakman superhero movie was a hit because its cheap slapstick humor - which predictably went down well with mainstream audiences who can't seem to get enough of the Senario comedy series.
This sequel thus brings more of the same, with plenty of cheap gags, toilet jokes and second-rate CG effects - some convincing and some cringeworthy. Cicakman once again has to battle the evil Professor Klon who is planning to - what else - take over the world. (Cue evil laughter.) If our superhero doesn't stop him, the Professor will turn the world into a mass of blackness within 72 hours.
The typical corn, cliches and curious characters you'd find in superhero films come rattling in...
And as we noted before, a lot of people find this stuff funny. The first Cicakman film still gets shown on TV now and then because folks want to see it. Unfortunately, we're not among those who enjoy cheap slapstick fun. We found the movie really painful, and were utterly relieved when it was over.
