Fridae

This is the third werewolves-versus-vampires film from the Underworld franchise, but it doesn't star hot Kate Beckinsale or gorgeous Scott Speedman. Instead, it stars Michael Sheen with greasy hair and in tight leather pants. And if you know Michael as the serious actor who played British Prime Minister Tony Blair in The Queen and journalist David Frost in Frost/Nixon, you'd realise this borders on embarrassing.

This prequel takes place a hundred years ago. Michael belongs to a breed of werewolves known as Lycans who are enslaved by a mighty vampire lord (played by the King of Overacting, Bill Nighy) in a large castle. Michael is in love with the lord's sexy vampire daughter (Rhona Mitra, who look's like a poorman's version of Kate Beckinsale) and she with him.

But when Daddy discovers their affair, things get awfully nasty as vampires and werewolves turn against each other�

Directed by Patrick Tatopoulos, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is barely watchable. But then again, so were the first two films. The third vampires-versus-werewolves story feels oddly vapid and predictable - devoid of any interesting developments in the mythologies of these classic fanged creatures. And the old-school action sequences - using swords and bows-and-arrows - look positively old.

A movie called Underwear: Rise of the Lycra would've been more interesting.
