Central Embassy by Amanda Levete Architects

This 1.5 million sq ft retail and hotel complex is set to become Bangkok's new architectural landmark upon completion in 2013.

A 145,000 sqm major retail and hotel complex is set to start works in 2010 in Bangkok, Thailand for Central Retail Corporation. London based Amanda Levete Architects, compromising of award-winning architect Amanda Levete, together with directors Alvin Huang, Kwamina Monney and Ho-Yin Ng have been commissioned for this project.

It is unknown whether this complex will employ the same material palate as the shopping centre in UK, which Amanda Levete is famed for. Amanda Levete is the founder of the Future Systems. Would the materials be modified to take the humid climate of Thailand?

Located at the heart of Bangkok's commercial buzz zone, Ploen Chit Road, taking the place of the former gardens of British Embassy in Nai Lert Park, this complex will be the new architectural landmark for the city, and indeed the region. At the current moment, the complex will include a 7-storey retail podium and a 30-storey 6-star hotel tower. This is scheduled for completion in 2013.

Another temple to consumerism - devoid of culture nor sense of place! Does Bangkok need another of this? Give it another five years and it's as dated as the drain-pipe pants you're wearing.

For once i do agree with the comment above.... admitedly it is an interesting and innovative architecture using state of the art materials - BUT..... Thailand does not need another of these super complex when the vast majority of the population is still struggling to survive a decent lifestyle. If only the governmemt can get its act together and rebuild the Kingdom to be a safe and clean city and embrace it's culture - that would be much better than to build a mega super modern structure that does nothing to rebuild the economy.

One more comment to add....it is about time that if Thailand wants to build a responsible building, maybe they should think of how they can utilize the HOT SUN for solar energy and greens to help reduce the polution and create a cooler environment.

all I can say is that it looks WOW!!! All cities struggle with polution and I would say Bangkok has done more in that direction in the last 15ys than most Asian cities

I am not sure they will actually build it .. sometimes these autodesk pictures are too "regularly". This kind of design doesnt interest me anymore.
