Data Romance makes electro pop of the finest kind. Their music is dark yet offers a glimmer of light and flashes of hope, and their electrifying new single "Spark" is a perfect example of that. It's a slow-burning slice of deeply atmospheric schizo-pop that combines brooding synth pop stylings with delicate and uplifting vocals.
Vocalist Amy Kirkpatrick explains that the song is ultimately about hope and perseverance. "It's kind of about being left with almost absolutely nothing and having this spark in you to keep going," she says in a press release. The Vancouver duo released a stunning video for the song today that was directed by Lauren Graham.
Data Romance is the teaming of synth man Ajay Bhattacharyya and vocalist Amy Kirkpatrick. A happenstance meeting between the two, in their hometown of Victoria, BC, led them to discover each others' artistic talents which would eventually be incorporated into their music. While the music and vocals seemingly come from opposite ends of the artistic spectrum, it’s this dichotomy that ultimately blends to create the band’s uniquely personal sound.
The two released their self-titled debut EP this summer right after joining the ID Festival to introduce dance-loving audiences to their electro sound. They have continued touring, opening for artists like The Crystal Method, Rusko and Kaskade. For the next few weeks, the group will tour alongside Digitalism as a special guest on the group's North American tour. (Download MP3)
