Dutch pop star Eva Simons first appeared on the global music scene back in 2009 when her tune "Silly Boy" surfaced on YouTube and became a viral sensation that racked up millions of views. People were instantly captivated by Simons' classically powerful vocals, fresh dance pop sound and that big red mohawk that made her stand out from the pack.
After working with people like Jessica Sutton of The Pussycat Dolls and Redfoo of LMFAO, Simons got a good taste for international success. But her big breakthrough came when she worked with Afrojack, her fellow Hollander, on "Take Over Control," an unstoppable dance-pop romp that rocketed to the top of the charts around the world.
Now signed to Interscope Records, Simons is getting ready to strike out on her own. Listen to her brand-new single, "I Don't Like You," that will be released in the U.S. on March 26. The track was produced by German producer Zedd who is known for serving up a kicky melange of progressive house, electro house and dubstep that clearly are some of the main ingredients on this hook-laden new Simons tune.
"I Don't Like You" features some complex soundboard action that make it different than many of the cookie-cutter dance-pop ditties out there. Zedd expertly incorporates a joyous club groove with richly melodic synth chords in the verses that climax to a blissful sunburst chorus. He gives the song extra zing with some complextro-style, micro synths cuts (that videogame effect that follows the chorus) and a brooding dubstep breakdown three quarters into the song that is flavored fittingly.
But what truly sets "I Don't Like You" apart is Simons' impressive vocal performance that adds soul and warmth to the song's well-constructed, crisp production stylings. Simons' emotive delivery particularly shines in the song's soaring middle eight that neatly shows off her impressive vocal talent and add resolve to her lyrics about love and letting go.
With Simons' on-point vocal delivery and the song's leading-edge production values, "I Don't Like You" is an impressive slice of pop perfection that will surely put Simons in pole position for international success that goes way beyond the dancefloor.
