According to Gay Star News, the LGBT news and editorial provider, Rela’s server was not even password protected, and Rela had allegedly left the app users’ data exposed since June ‘18. Victor Gevers, a security researcher at the GDI Foundation, identified the security weakness, which left 5.3 million user records unprotected. The records include a user’s geo-location, nickname, date of birth, height, weight, ethnicity, sexual preferences and interests. A Rela spokesperson is reported to have given a ‘brief response’ to confirm the flaw in their data protection.
