Since Indiana Jones, there hasn't been a more exciting action-adventure trilogy than The Pirates of the Caribbean. It delivers all the thrills and spills you expect, and it makes you feel like a kid again. Indeed, you won't find hotter action, bigger thrills and crazier laughs anywhere else this season especially after the very disappointing Spider-Man 3.
Just as its title promised, this Pirates of the Caribbean movie takes you to the world's end, where Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is trapped after his terrifying encounter with the sea monster in the last film. Lovebirds Elizabeth (Kiera Knightley) and Will (Orlando Bloom) are forced to go there to save him even though they hate him because they need him to help stop the evil East India Trading Company from wreaking havoc across the Seven Seas.
First, the crew must sail to Singapore to meet the wily and cunning Sao Feng (Chow Yun Fatt) and obtain the maps that would help them navigate the treacherous waters. But even after that, they must navigate the equally treacherous terrain of betrayals and hidden agendas...
Like the first two films, this Pirates movie has been worked and polished to the last inch of its life to become this year's biggest blockbuster. The production designs, from the wigs and costumes to the ships and sets, is uniformly first-rate.
The non-stop action sequences are filled with narrow escapes, bravado sword-fights and titanic sea battles between the somewhat evil and the truly evil. Even if the pace is uneven and the plot is sometimes confusing, the sheer magnitude of everything the film has to offer overwhelms the flaws.
Bravely sailing through hell and high water, this is one Pirate ship you never want to get off.
