Remember Alvin and the Chipmunks, those cute cartoon chipmunks who played musical instruments and sang in squeaky little voices? Well, they're back in their very own live-action movie version, made possible by the magic of CGI.
Directed by Tim Hill (Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties), this simple but enjoyable film stars Jason Lee (My Name is Earl) as a songwriter who meets a trio of chipmunks and turns them into a pop sensation. Meanwhile, the chipmunks wreak havoc on his house and career with their nasty little habits and antics...
Although this film isn't about to win any Oscars, it is charming enough on its own terms. The CGI chipmunks are truly adorable, and those of us who are old enough to have watched the cartoon or bought the albums when we were young will experience a rush of nostalgia every time the chipmunks break into song.
