"I've been a musician way longer than I've been an actor, so the
chance to get to play a musician on the show felt like a no-brainer," Emmich says on the ABC web site. "I know what it's like to bend over backwards to try and
get your music heard, so I empathize with Jesse's struggle and I share his dream."
Emmich started his musical career at Rutgers University where he performed in various bands. He released his first EP in 2001 and was picked up by Sony BMG/Epic in 2004. After ending his tumultuous relationship with Sony BMG, Emmich moved to Woodstock, NY to work on new material. He independently put out "Sunlight Searchparty" (2005) and "Songs, Volume 1: Woodstock" (2007). The multi-faceted actor started acting in college to pay for tuition. He started with stints in television commercials for AT&T and Burger King, followed by appearances on 30 Rock and Cashmere Mafia.
When I first heard Emmich's voice I had to think of Billy Idol's baritone vocals, which is an odd comparison, but it is the singer's powerful voice that really gets to me. His new disc "Little Daggers" is an excellent album that combines weighty pieces with catchy power pop jams. Download his new single "Get On With It" totally guilt-free now.
