Are you a sucker for cute animal documentaries? That may be crucial in determining whether you'll enjoy this documentary or not. As it stands, some of us at Fridae loved Panda Diary to pieces, while others were bored stiff.
Directed by Tadashi Mouri, Panda Diary focuses on a pair of twin pandas who were born and raised in a Japanese zoo. They live among other pandas, learning to eat bamboo together, running and wrestling with each other, and generally horsing around like human kids.
But the two must now be returned to China , where their mother came from. And leaving the place they call home is understandably hard
Panda Diary is narrated from one of the panda's perspective, so there is a certain Hello Kitty charm and kooky sense of humor to it. Children who are old enough to read the subtitles may be taken in by it, as would fans of National Geographic Channel. But folks who want to watch a Panda only when there's Kung Fu attached to it may be nauseated by the cloying cuteness of it all.
Panda Diary is a treat for animal lovers; torture for documentary haters.
