If you are Christian/Muslim/Jew and feel strongly
against The Da Vinci Code's brazen theories about
Jesus and Mary, then we recommend you find escape in
Over the Hedge, a formulaic but charming
computer-generated cartoon by DreamWorks.
The delightful story centers on a bunch of animals who
wake up from winter hibernation to find their forest
home bulldozed over to make way for a housing
development. Anxious that their food source is gone,
they begin to steal food (like pizza and donuts) from
the humans. Hilarity and cute-siness ensue...
Though the 'Evil Humans versus Adorable Animals'
storyline has been used to death, Over the Hedge manages to throw up some nice slapstick surprises and
charmingly eccentric characters. The voice talents of
veteran actors like Gary Shandling, Bruce Willis and
Nick Nolte make the animals immediately likeable, if
ultimately forgettable.
Good fun to be had by all, especially if you are
accompanying a young kid. Oh, and the hilarious
Mission Impossible spoof near the end should knock
your socks off.
