The Guardian

Director: Andrew Davis

Starring: Kevin Costner, Ashton Kutcher, Neal McDonough, Melissa Sagemiller

Release: 2006-10-17

This old-fashioned action thriller is soooo Top Gun, you almost expect Kenny Loggins to break into a song on the soundtrack.

Set in a Marine training facility where rescue swimmers are trained to save drowning victims from sinking ships and choppy seas, it stars Kevin Costner as a former star swimmer who has to train a group of young recruits, which includes the cocky but talented Ashton Kutcher. It turns out that both men have demons to exorcise, and though they hate each other's guts, they somehow manage to help each other do exactly that...

It also turns out that The Guardian has a plot that recalls Top Gun, An Officer and a Gentleman, Umizaru and about 20 other macho-shit films. Unless you are a huge fan of action movies (and the action sequences are quite impressive), skip this.
