Martin Lawrence provides the voice of a pampered grizzly bear that has been raised by a kind forest ranger (Debra Messing of Will & Grace fame) in a human environment. When he decides to return to the wild, he is clueless about surviving the elements. To make matters worse, it is open season for hunters. His newfound friends, a mule deer (Ashton Kutcher), a squirrel (Billy Connolly), a beaver (Jon Favreau) and several rabbits, try to help him...
Open Season boasts beautiful animation. But computer-generated animation has reached such a high level of sophistication that audiences are no longer wowed by the sheer brilliance of its images. The leading cartoon company Pixar has raised the bar so high with its perfectly smart and entertaining cartoons (Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles) that other companies are struggling to catch up.
And Open Season like Chicken Little, Barnyard, Madagascar, Shark's Tale, among others just feels predictable and mediocre compared to Pixar's more original cartoons. We won't recommend this to anyone except animation lovers.
