Ben's Brother is a new London five-piece that was founded by singer Jamie Hartman. Before starting his own band, Hartman established himself as an accomplished songwriter for pop artists like Will Young (for whom he wrote the hit "All Time Love"), Emma Bunton and Natalie Imbruglia.
Hartman named his band after his older brother Ben. Growing up, Jamie always found himself in the shadow of his Ben who was the sports jock of the family while Jamie was the introverted musician. The differences between the two siblings not only inspired the band name but also led to the title of Ben's Brother debut album "Beta Male Fairytales."
The music on the album is best described as delicate adult contemporary pop rock that will be embraced by fans of James Blunt and Passenger. It is nothing edgy or adventurous, but it is darn good music that is well-crafted and features Hartman's sensitive vibrato that I find a bit reminiscent of Antony & The Johnsons.
"Time" also displays Hartmann's beta male sensitivies with lyrics like, "I'd crawl, then I'd walk, then I'd run but then I'd stumble and fall. I tried my best. Maybe I'm a little more self-aware Still get scared but I've learned to trust it. (Click here to download "Beta Male Fairytales" in MP3 on 7Digital.)
