Unless you're below 14, it's unlikely that you will enjoy Nim's Island all that much — despite the presence of rumoured-to-be-lesbian actress Jodie Foster.
This kid's adventure story stars Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) as a little girl raised on a volcanic island by her marine biologist father (Gerard Butler). The little girl loves to read adventure books written by a certain Alex Rover who, as it turns out, is a mousy little woman named Alexis (Jodie Foster) living in San Francisco.
So when Daddy fails to return from his expedition, the little girl finds no one to turn to except her hero (or heroine) Alex Rover. Communicating via email, Alexis soon realises that the little girl is stranded alone on the island and that it is up to her to help the child, however scared she may be about the actual prospect of travel...
Long-winded and mildly entertaining.
